My Story – Theresa Valerie Oheneba-Dornyo, Founder

I lost my birth mother suddenly when I was just 18. In a moment, I found myself stepping into a mothering role for my youngest brother, who was nearly four at the time — and of course, caring for my other younger siblings,. I tried my best to “wing it” — loving them, protecting them, and learning on the go.

Because of that experience, I truly believed that when it came time to raise my own children, I’d be fully prepared. I thought motherhood would feel natural — maybe even easy.

But when I gave birth to my first baby, reality set in. There was still so much I didn’t know. No one had told me about the bleeding that can continue for weeks after childbirth. Or how exhausting it is when your baby wakes every two hours in the night. The emotional rollercoaster. The physical toll. The moments of joy mixed with deep overwhelm.

That’s when I began searching — not just for answers, but for community. A space where real-life parenting stories were being shared honestly and with love.

And that’s how The Maternity Diary was born.

It’s a space where I share what I’ve learned (and continue to learn), so no mother (and father) ever has to feel like they’re doing it alone. A place to connect, be seen, and celebrate the beauty and struggle of parenthood — together.
